Experiment to Detect the Global EoR Step
Haystack Observatory is developing a radio telescope to make accurate measurements of the sky noise from 100 to 200 MHz. The radiometer uses 3 position Dicke switching to derive a calibrated spectrum from the direct sampled data looking at the antenna, an ambient temperature load and a calibrated noise source.
The antenna is a broadband structure based on the "Fourpoint" design of the Virginina Tech Antenna Group. (S-Y Suh, et al, 2004 IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference, VTC2004, 2004, pt. 1 p 225-0, vol 1)
The spectrometer is based on the Acquiris AC240 (A.O. Benz et al, A&A, 442, 767-773 (2005)).
