The Sun and all of the other stars in our Milky Way Galaxy emit radio waves. These radio waves are not sounds, but rather a type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths millions of times longer than visible light. Depending on the type of star, radio emission can stem from a variety of sources, including stellar winds and outflows or colliding particles in the star's atmosphere. By studying stellar radio emission, astronomers can gain new information about the lives and deaths of stars that is not accessible through any other means.
