Bill,
Yes, the Sondrstrom resolved comp-scan velocities are binned in PACE
latitudes. PACE longtitudes are not included in the database. I've checked
the velocity resolving method that Mary sent me. It seems that since
comp-scan is done to the east and west of the magnetic meridan, the binned
velocities that have been derived from paired LOS records might have a
(PACE) magnetic longitude similar to the site's or at 300 km above the
radar (the PACE magnetic longtitude changes - maybe slightly - with
altitude). So why don't we assume the PACE longitude for the Sondrstrome
resoluved velocities from comp-scan equals to that for a point 300 km
above Sondrstrome?
Now with Sondrstrome's geodetic coordinates and altitude, we can calculate
the PACE longitude. Then we can convert the PACE system to other systems.
As a general rule, if PACE longitude is not available for converting PACE
coordinates to geodetic coordinates, we may have to assume the missing
longitude equals to the site's PACE longitude. (We need to be certain the
change in altitude from 0 to 300 km results in a small change in PACE
longitude).
