Directions to the MIT Haystack Observatory
From the
- South - From Boston, take I-93 north
to I-95 south (Route 128).
Follow I-95 for about 5.5 miles and exit onto
Route 3 north. Continue north on Route 3
for approx. 15 miles until you reach Exit 33 for Route
40 (Groton Rd.). Take a right at the end of the
ramp and head west on Route 40.
Continue with "Common" directions.
- North - Take Route 3 south to exit 33,
Route 40. Take a left at the end of the ramp and head west
on Route 40.
Continue with "Common" directions.
- East/West - Take I-495 to Route
3. Those two highways intersect in Chelmsford, MA.
Follow Route 3 north to exit 33 (<5 mi.),
Route 40 (Groton Rd.). Take a right at the end of the
ramp and head west on Route 40.
Continue with "Common" directions.
- Common to all above - Take Route 40
west for 5 miles until you see signs
for NEROC Haystack Observatory and MIT Lincoln
Laboratory on the right hand
side of the road. ("Entering Groton" sign is on your left shortly before the access road.) Follow the access road 1½ miles to the Haystack Observatory
(BLDG. #8).
