Information from the mount manufacturer, Kaul-Tronics, Inc, indicates that the drive shaft sleeve bearings are NOT GREASED before shipping. This is intended to eliminate the possibility of grease spillage on other parts during shipping. The lack of lubrication on the shaft sleeve can create a problem when users attempt to move the telescope. This problem can be variable by unit.
There is a grease fitting at the midpoint of each of the drive shaft housings. (Click here for a closeup image of the grease fitting) Grease can be applied to the sleeve bearings with the use of a standard automobile grease gun. The user SHOULD DO THIS PRIOR TO THE FIRST MOTION TEST.
